I find several occurences of attempts to use Ripple from the RIM source / download that reports frozen opening of the program, which is what is happening to me. Is this common / normal? Should I assume that my computer is a wierd setup and that is a problem? Is anybody at RIM solving this for peolpe? Is there a site on this Forum that is summarizing the various approaches to the problem?
Should I just forget about using Ripple and/or playbook apps?

Not really a solution, more like avoiding the problem.
Abandoned the computer that wouldn't work with Ripple. It had a lot of programs and baggage.
Switched to a Dell - Intel workstation, similar and not the same as the other computer. Fresh loaded WinXP SP3 and all the updates. Added some anti virus, backup software, text editor, the basics. Loaded Ripple and the supporting development software from RIM and the Ripple programs loaded, more than once, and seems to work OK. Did some configuring: switched device, did a "Package" operation and got an error message, figured that one out, reran, got another error...
anyway now it works, so let the fun begin.

I'm having similar problems, but unfortunately don't have a spare machine to run bare to see if this resolves my issues.
On start up the development environment displays and then ...'Ripple.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
Does anyone out there know which software is conflicting with ripple?
I can run the Google add-in but understand this has a limited life :-(

Are you using a 64 bit OS?
At first I had some problems, because I installed the 64 bit JDK. Make sure to use the 32 bit JDK even if you're using a 64 bit OS. Maybe this solves your problems.
