After conversations with developers it appears that this is not an issue with the Desktop Software but an issue with the devices being whitelisted for a reload. We are working dilligently to resolve the issue.

Hi guys,

I had the exact same issue (did a security wipe, camera app disappeared, BB10 Dev Alpha refused to connect to USB) and was able to partly fix it:

From the menu, Storage and sharing:

Changed "usb connectios" from auto to windows (I'm on windows) and manually enabled File Sharing, and set a password.

also, I set it to development mode.

After reconnecting, it reinstalled the driver, and I was able to see the BB10 Dev Alpha connectede to the Z drive as before.

Unfortunately, the camera app didn't came back.

Actually, I suspect the camera app is really deleted as it is not listed by

blackberry-deploy -listInstalledApps

 But pushing both volume buttons still works for screenshots

From my understanding, this is what's happening :

"There's a problem with USB mass storage driver"

The alpha device needs appropriate drivers to be operated (similar to the PB 2.0.1 upgrade ?), but they won't install, either with the automated procedure (as stated on alpha screen when pluging it for the first time) nor with the "playbook drive" supposingly (yet, not) appearing in the "My Computer" folder.

While it might look over-simplistic, I'd suggest :
Just give us acces to a DL with what we should find in the "alpha drive (i.e: device manager setup & associated drivers files) and let us install it on our desktops. It may cut a whole branch of investigation and help going further in this issue ...

My 2 cents.

Also, note that my alpha was delivered unscealed and my touchscreen is irresponsive sometimes : is this commun to those having this issue ?

Hi superfly_fr,

As already posted by reumerd, you can download the drivers from the DevGroupNL web page: www.bbdevgroup.nl/BB10 Dev Alpha/Device Driver BB10 dev Alpha.zip but these make little difference in reloading your device.

By installing the drivers and rebooting, your device will appear as a disk drive and allow a local 169 address for loading your apps, but still does not allow to reload / de-brick the Dev Alpha.

Its a start and helps you get back to developing, but not a complete fix. As WayneLee stated on the betazone post, it is being looked into as of June 14th. A little patience and a temporary workaround is all as required, I'm sure RIM are working hard to whitelist the devices so we can reload them soon!

No worries. It does help in one way, but not for dev as a lot of bits are still missing such as the android player et al.

Yep, I beat myself every day for wiping the alpha ... Developping on ripple webworks 10 (chrome extension) for the moment. Hopefully we get whitelisted soon ...

Hmm, appart from the caméra app being deleted, I didn't realize more things were missing... Didn't use the Android player yet.

@Alasio do you have a list of which components and apis are missing after a security wipe? Might help us keep calm if something is not working instead of loosing hours just to figure out it's been wiped.

If you look at the device itself, prior to wipe it shows 33 apps installed. After wipe it shows just 1, the browser.

Having no idea what 31 of the deleted apps are (camera is clearly one, possibly 2 with video camera) all I have thusly discovered is android player is missing along with some of the native stuff just not playing as it should. Could be coincidence, so please feel free to test and throw insight where you can guys!
