BlackBerry JDE does not recognize previously installed simulators

by Retired ‎02-17-2010 03:38 PM - edited ‎02-18-2010 09:55 AM (1,957 Views)

This article applies to the following:

  • BlackBerry® Java® Development Environment (JDE) 4.2 and later
  • BlackBerry Device Simulator bundles 4.1.0 and later

Additional BlackBerry Device Simulator bundles can be installed that offer different models and branding that were not included with the BlackBerry JDE release. This support was introduced with BlackBerry JDE 4.2.0 and BlackBerry Device Simulator bundles 4.1.0.

The BlackBerry JDE recognizes BlackBerry Device Simulators that were already included with the BlackBerry JDE and any BlackBerry Device Simulator bundles that were installed after the BlackBerry JDE was installed. If a new version of the BlackBerry JDE is installed, it will not recognize the previously installed BlackBerry Device Simulator bundles.

The BlackBerry JDE uses the help of an .rc file to recognize any installed BlackBerry Device Simulators. This file is stored in the BIN subfolder of the BlackBerry JDE and allows the BlackBerry JDE to find the installed BlackBerry Device Simulator and include it in the list of simulators.

For BlackBerry JDE 4.1.0 through 4.2.1, the BlackBerry Device Simulator installation will place the .rc file with the closest matching version of the BlackBerry JDE that is installed. The following table outlines which BlackBerry Device Simulator version goes with the version of BlackBerry JDE that is installed:

Simulator version  BlackBerry JDE version
4.1.0 4.2.0
4.2.0 4.2.0
4.2.1 4.2.1
4.2.2 4.2.1

Note: For BlackBerry Device Simulator 4.2.2, the .rc file will also be installed in a common files location.

Copy the BlackBerry Device Simulator .rc file to the BIN subfolder of the BlackBerry JDE that you will be using and restart the BlackBerry JDE.
