Configure email simulation support in the BlackBerry MDS Simulator

Details

 

BlackBerry MDS Simulator 4.1.2 and later handles email simulation support that was previously only available when using the Email Server Simulator (ESS).

 

To configure email simulation support, edit the rimpublic.property file located in the Your_Installation_Directory\MDS\config directory or ./Eclipse\plugins\net.rim.ejde.componentpack#.#.#_#.#.#.#\components\MDS\config directory and look for the following entries:

The following table describes the parameters:

 

Parameter Valid values Description 
Email.mode none Email simulation is disabled.
connect The BlackBerry MDS Simulator will use a Post Office Protocol (POP) and Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server to send/receive email messages sent to/from the BlackBerry Device Simulator.
standalone The BlackBerry MDS Simulator will act as a POP/SMTP server. A third-party email client can be connected to the BlackBerry MDS Simulator to send/receive email messages sent to/from the BlackBerry Device Simulator.
Email.personal Any string The from name used in email messages sent from the BlackBerry Device Simulator.
Email.address Any valid email address The from email address used in email messages sent from the BlackBerry Device Simulator.
Email.deviceId The personal identification number (PIN) of the BlackBerry Device Simulator This value must match the PIN of the BlackBerry Device Simulator you are using. The default PIN used by the BlackBerry Device Simulator is 2100000a. You can view the PIN currently in use by the BlackBerry Device Simulator under Options > Status. It can be changed by modifying the batch file or command line used to launch the BlackBerry Device Simulator. See the Command Line Options of the BlackBerry Device Simulator Help for more information.
Email.pop3server * POP3 server address Contains the POP3 server address the BlackBerry MDS Simulator will connect to.
Email.smtpserver * SMTP server address Contains the SMTP server address the BlackBerr MDS Simulator will use to send email messages.
Email.smtpPort * 1 to 65534 The port number of the SMTP server configured in the Email.smtpserver entry.
Email.pop3Port * 1 to 65534 The port number of the POP3 server configured in the Email.pop3server entry.
Email.userId * Any string. The username required to log in to the POP3 server specified in the Email.pop3server entry.
Email.password * Any string. The password required to log into the POP3 server specified in the Email.pop3server entry.
Email.pollInterval * An integer value greater than 0.

The poll interval the BlackBerry MDS Simulator will use to check for new email messages on a POP3 server. This value is in seconds.

 

 

* Parameters marked with a * are only required when using connected mode.
