Testing and Deployment

Hello, 

I'm developing for BB10 since mid of November and I created some apps and some of them are being tested right now. I spent quite a lot of time with them and they are not simple one page apps but they are polished in details (so they took quite a lot of time because of this)

As I saw on different thread then it seems that Built for BlackBerry will be very rare Badge.

So it looks like making a few but quite polished native apps (without B4BB) is very bad approach for getting Dev Alpha C.

People pushing tens of converted apps in Port-a-thons will get Dev Alpha C for sure and I will most likely not.

What do you think? Should I create a lot of primitive native apps to increase my chance to get Dev Alpha C?

I don't like this approach but current criteria seems to be more advatageous for "spammers" but not for fair developers seeing BB10 as opportunity in long term cooperation with BB.

If you look at the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha C page at: https://developer.blackberry.com/devalphac/

You will see how points are awarded:

• 50 points for ported Android applications

• 250 points for all other applications (Native, BlackBerry® WebWorks™, Adobe AIR)

• 1,500 points for Built For BlackBerry certified application

So, this clearly favours those who produce Built For BlackBerry certified applications.

have together exactly the same number of points as my apps that took me together about two months to finish.

At my current level of skills I can create apps mentioned above in one ofternoon.

But wouldn be better for BB let me work on more useful apps?

Don't worry about those other apps. If your app receives Built for BlackBerry certification it will get the same points as 6 standard apps or 30 Android ported apps! That seems fair to me.

@radsystems Have you ever heard about anybody who received B4BB?

I heard about a lot of people whose apps were rejects. It seems that only really extraordinary app can get this certification. Definitely not normal app.

If this is true, then my two months of my work are equal to one afternoon of authors of these apps.

Did you spend those two months creating apps only so you could get a Dev Alpha C?

If not, then I suspect the extra time you spent will be rewarded with more users and better reviews than any that you could create in an afternoon.

Dev Alpha C is different form factor (square display). It is pretty annoying to test app in emulator.

That is the reason why I'm interested in this device.

As far as I know there will not be available devices with square display at the beginning. So Dev Alpha C seems only way how to test apps on square displays.
