Summary

This article applies to the following:

  • BlackBerry® Java® Development Environment (BlackBerry JDE)
  • BlackBerry® Mobile Data System (BlackBerry MDS) Simulator

Details

The BlackBerry MDS logs are located in the logs directory of the BlackBerry MDS Simulator installation directory. Some versions of the BlackBerry JDE include the BlackBerry MDS Simulator, and the logs would be located in the BlackBerry JDE installation directory. The BlackBerry JDE Component Pack installs the BlackBerry MDS Simulator in the following path within the Eclipse installation directory: plugins\net.rim.eide.componentpack#.#.#_#.#.#.##\components\MDS

The following steps configure the BlackBerry MDS Simulator to write the output shown in its command prompt window to a file located in the logs directory of the BlackBerry MDS Simulator installation directory.

  1. Close the BlackBerry MDS Simulator.
  2. Open MDS\config\rimpublic.property. Under the [Logging] section, insert or edit the line so that the value is set to logs as in the following example:

    Logging.file.location=logs

  3. Under the [Logging] section, insert or edit the line so that the value is set to 4, as in the following example:

    Logging.file.log.level=4

  4. Save the file and restart the BlackBerry MDS Simulator.

To turn on the logging of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) transactions in the BlackBerry MDS, complete the following steps:

  1. Close the BlackBerry MDS Simulator.
  2. Open MDS\config\rimpublic.property.
  3. Under the [HTTP HANDLER] section, insert or edit the line so that the value is set to true, as in the following example:

    application.handler.http.logging = true

  4. Save the file and restart the BlackBerry MDS Simulator.

The HTTP transactions should appear in the BlackBerry MDS logs.

Verbose logging can also be enabled. This will cause the BlackBerry MDS Simulator to log the contents of web pages accessed by the BlackBerry® Browser of the BlackBerry Smartphone Simulator when used in conjunction with the BlackBerry MDS Simulator. Complete the following steps to enable verbose logging:

  1. Close the BlackBerry MDS Simulator.
  2. Open MDS\config\rimpublic.property.
  3. Under the <HTTP HANDLER> section, insert or edit the line so that the value is set to bold, as in the following example:

    application.handler.http.logging.verbose= true

  4. Save the file and restart the BlackBerry MDS Simulator.

HTML content should now appear in the BlackBerry MDS logs.
