The invalid pin is a known issue and being looked into.

 Tips
 

  1. Restart your BlackBerry Playbook
  2. Reregister at the above url
  3. Press the software update button again
  4. Should work for you now.

I entered my PIN again and it started right up.  A friend did too.  List must have been messed up.

 

Try that.

You mean register from playbook or still from computer?

I don't think it matters where you register from. Try using a web browser.

Can't access the url, says ERROR  HTTP 403

My PIN finally worked and PlayBook detected the update seconds, not waiting.
