This article applies to the following:
- BlackBerry® Java™ Development Environment (JDE)
- BlackBerry Device Simulator 4.1
- BlackBerry Email Server Simulator (ESS) 4.1
- SDR87543
When you launch the BlackBerry Email Server Simulator, the BlackBerry Device Simulator is unable to receive messages but is able to send them.
This is seen when the personal identification number (PIN) within the BlackBerry Email Server Simulator does not match the PIN within the BlackBerry Device Simulator.
If BlackBerry Java Development Environment 4.1 or BlackBerry Email Server Simulator 4.1 is used, download a more recent BlackBerry Email Server Simulator version from the BlackBerry Simulators page on the BlackBerry.com web site.
Verify the PIN in the BlackBerry Email Server Simulator settings matches the PIN in the BlackBerry Device Simulator. On the BlackBerry Device Simulator, the PIN appears under Options > Status.
The PIN can be changed in any of the following three locations:
Note: Close the BlackBerry Email Server Simulator prior to making the change.
- Click Start > Programs > Research In Motion.
- Select BlackBerry Java Development Environment <version>, then select ESS.
- Modify the PIN field in the configuration window to reflect the BlackBerry Device Simulator PIN.
- Select Launch to start the BlackBerry Email Server Simulator.
Within the BlackBerry Java Development Environment, change the BlackBerry Device Simulator PIN.
- Click Edit > Preferences, then click the Simulator tab.
- On the General tab, change the PIN field (0x2100000A) to reflect the BlackBerry Email Server Simulator.
If you are running the BlackBerry Device Simulator as a stand-alone simulator (by double-clicking on the <XXXX>.bat file), then you can edit the PIN by changing the attribute /pin=0x2100000A within the <XXXX>.bat file.
- Open the BlackBerry Device Simulator in a text editor, and change the attribute to reflect the PIN specified in the BlackBerry Email Server Simulator configuration settings.
- Save the changes and then double-click on the updated <XXXX>.bat file.
