Unable to update application

Hi there,

 

Finally I managed to complete my application. But here's the next problem. 

I installed it with the Desktop Manager for Mac on my device (BB 8310). Unfortunately I need to reinstall it, due to some changes made to my application. But if I try to reinstall it, it just installs the previous version (or that first version) of my app and not the current one. 

I also tried to update it, but in that list where all the application are shown which can be updated it's not listed.

 

Need some help on that...

Have you incremented the version number in the new version and updated both the COD and ALX files?  If not, Desktop Manager will not realize it has a newer version of the application to install.

thank you for your reply. I updated both, the .alx and .cod file. And after installing it, I saw the newer version in the Desktop Manager. But as I started my Application, it's still the same old one.

I don't get what I'm doing wrong..

 

Maybe I'm missing a step. This is what I'm doing to install my App:

1. Change Version number at the apps properties

2. Generate .alx file and run the application to update the .cod file

3. Delete the old version from my device

4. Add the new one to the Desktop Manager and install it

That should do it.  How are you doing #3?  Are you doing it through Desktop Manager or on the device itself (Options, Applications)?

Oh, I didn't know that I could delete it directly on the device. Ok, by now, I tried both (delete it with the Desktop Manager AND on the device). But nothing worked yet.

What happens when you attempt to delete the application from the BlackBerry Smartphone (from the device itself)?

As I delete it, the application list reloads and the app isn't shown there anymore. Also it's not on my device. Therefore I would say it's uninstalled properly.

As I connect it to my PC and open Desktop Manager, at the application list my app is unchecked. 

 

And then, if I check it and try to (re)install it, it installs the old version.

Ok, then the delete is working correctly but Desktop Manager is loading an older version.

 

Try removing the application from the Desktop Manager list (use the delete button) and then re-add the ALX file of your new version.

That's really odd. As I don't have a delete button on my Desktop Manager and not being able to remove the app of the Desktop Managers list, I tried to reinstall the Desktop Manager. But... as I plugged in my device (with NOT having the application on it), the application appeared in the Desktop Manager list. I supposed it isn't there as I removed it from my Device and a new installation of the Desktop Manager. 

 

...Hard one and really frustrating :smileysad:
