Summary

This article applies to BlackBerry® devices based on Java® .

Problem

When installing a MIDlet application wirelessly using the BlackBerry Browser or Internet Browser, the following warning appears:

This application does not contain a signature. It might not be from a trusted source. Do you want to proceed? Yes/No.

Cause

This warning appears when installing a MIDlet application that has not been signed by the service provider that issued the BlackBerry device.

Resolution 1

A BlackBerry device user can select Yes to this prompt and install the application without issue.

To prevent this warning, the BlackBerry device user can contact the service provider for further information about the application signing process.

Resolution 2

Sign the application with the RBB key. BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1 and later will not display this warning message if the application has been signed with the RBB key.

Note: Signing with the RBB key has no affect on this error when using BlackBerry Device Software versions earlier than 4.2.1. For more information on code signing, go to http://na.blackberry.com/eng/developers/downloads/api.jsp
