BB10 Dev Alpha issue: Debug token is invalid

[ Edited ]

I'm trying to get a debug token installed on my dev alpha device and it just... won't... work. I can create, validate and install the token but it results in an error: Debug token is invalid. That or Not applicable for this device.

OS Version 10.0.4.197

Build ID: 196525

PIN: 29D939F4

Boot time: Jun 28 21:32:34 UTC 2012

I'm using BlackBerry 10 WebWorks SDK 1.0.0.15

I just rebooted the device. It is currently 21:26 according to my computer clock and the BB10 clock is in sync with my computer clock... that's doesn't look right... the boot time listed is 5 minutes into the future.

Here's what I've done.

blackberry-debugtokenrequest -storepass storepass -devicepin 29D939F4 debugtokens\BB10_Dev_Alpha_debugtoken_29D939F4.bar

 Info: Debug token created.

blackberry-debugtokenrequest -verify debugtokens\BB10_Dev_Alpha_debugtoken_29D939F4.bar

Issue Date: June 28, 2012 8:02:59 PM EDT
Expiry Date: July 28, 2012 8:02:59 PM EDT
Devices:
702102004

Info: Debug token verified.

I verified that the device PIN above (702102004) is correct. It is the decimal version of my device PIN (29D939F4)

I tore the debug token apart and here's the manifest:

Archive-Manifest-Version: 1.2
Archive-Created-By: BlackBerry BAR Packager v1.4

Package-Author: XXXX
Package-Name: debug.token
Package-Version: 0.0.0.8
Package-Type: debug-token
Package-Author-Certificate-Hash: XXXX
Package-Author-Id: XXXX
Package-Id: XXXX
Package-Version-Id: XXXX
Package-Issue-Date: 2012-06-29T00:02:59Z

Debug-Token-System-Actions: execute,multi_window,multi_instance,run_air_native,run_native
Debug-Token-Expiry-Date: 2012-07-29T00:02:59Z
Debug-Token-Device-Id: 702102004

I was thrown off for a moment by the date (Package-Issue-Date: 2012-06-29T00:02:59Z) until I realized that it was just

my current time converted to offset -0. I'm currently in Toronto where it's now UTC -4.

blackberry-deploy -installDebugToken "C:\Program Files (x86)\Research In Motion\BlackBerry 10 WebWorks SDK 1.0.0.15\debugtoken.bar" -device 169.254.99.117 -password password

Info: Sending request: Install Debug Token
Info: Resetting stale session
Info: Sending request: Install Debug Token
Info: Action: Install Debug Token
Info: File size: 2273
result::success

Yet, the device doesn't like this token. Here's the result.

Any ideas about know what the problem could be here?

Thanks,

Rod

Re: BB10 Dev Alpha issue: Debug token is invalid

Rod,

I was having the same issue with my dev alpha and debug tokens. The source of the issue is date/time setting.

Here's the fix:

  • Enable development mode
  • Set your date/time to June or date in the past.
  • Check your security/debug token
  • Debug token becomes valid

My date is set to June 25th

Let me know if this solution also worked for you! Worked for me.

Re: BB10 Dev Alpha issue: Debug token is invalid

Thanks for the suggestion but, unfortunately, that didn't solve my problem. After I changed the device date to three days ago, the debug token message changed to "Not applicable to this device".

So I removed the token and, with the date still set in the past, I reinstalled the same debug token and got this message: "Issue date missing or in the future". Makes perfect sense.

I also tried setting my computer clock to the past to create a debug token but that didn't have any affect on the debug token's creation date since it seems to get its date from the RIM signing servers.

So I reset the date/time to accurate values (computer and device) and recreated and reinstalled a new token and I'm back to where I started: "Debug token is invalid".

There used to be a debug token on this device but I lost it during a security wipe... so I don't think the device is a dud.

So far these are the error messages I've observed:

"Not applicable to this device"

"Debug token is invalid"

"Issue date missing or in the future"

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Rod

Re: BB10 Dev Alpha issue: Debug token is invalid

You should try different dates. This is definitely the fix.

Re: BB10 Dev Alpha issue: Debug token is invalid

Just a short followup here... it seems that the build on my device was incompatible with the SDK I had installed. I got a fresh-out-of-the-box device and my problems are solved. Thanks for the date tip. I'll keep it banked for future use. ;-)

Re: BB10 Dev Alpha issue: Debug token is invalid

Same problem from my side. Changing dates didn't help. (Was it about computer or dev alpha date, anyway? I tried both). I receive every time one of the following:

"Not applicable to this device"

"Debug token is invalid"

"Issue date missing or in the future"

@Rod, how did you get you "fresh-out-of-the-box" device? I haven't done anything on the device yet, so for me it's fresh also. You mean - security wipe?

Any other ideas?

Re: BB10 Dev Alpha issue: Debug token is invalid

Tried going back 1 day/week/month - nothing.

Tried changing date after/before installing token - nothing

Tried changing between 12/24h format - nothing.

Tried changing timezone - nothing.

Fun fact: these invalid messages seem random. I've set date on device to today, uploaded token: 'Debug token is invalid'. Then change date to yesterday: 'Issue date missing or in the future'. Changed again to today but the message is different: 'Issue date missing or in the future'. Changed to tomorrow: 'Not applicable for this device'

For a developer device, this is a pity that the most important feature of it has got such glitches :/

I use BB 10 webworks sdk 1.0.0.15 and have os 10.0.4.188 on dev alpha.

Re: BB10 Dev Alpha issue: Debug token is invalid

1.0.0.15 is the newest webworks for BB10 on https://developer.blackberry.com/html5/download/sdk

You mean Tablet SDK? I've tried it, requested debug token, installed on the device with success, but same errors.

Re: BB10 Dev Alpha issue: Debug token is invalid

Yes Tablet SDK. Doesn't matter if you generate debug tokens using, AIR, WebWorks Tablet SDK, or BB10 SDKs, it should work the same way.

What are the errors that you're getting on Dev Alpha that are preventing you from deploying your apps? Also, make sure you edit the bbwp.properties file with debug token location when running bbwp with the -d flag.

Cheers
