BlackBerry Widgets later simulator versions.

Hi.

OK. Quick question. Is it possible to install widget as native application on later simulator versions that  BlackBerry Smartphone Simulators 5.0.0, 9500.

I know that BlackBerry Widgets SDK 1.0 Beta 1 requires BlackBerry OS 5.0... and later simulator version does not support it. Basically i want to test my widget on

simulator that has no touch screen.

I know that OS 5.0 support following devices:

  • BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8200 series smartphones
  • BlackBerry Curve 8330 smartphones
  • BlackBerry Curve 8350i smartphones
  • BlackBerry Curve 8900 smartphones
  • BlackBerry Bold 9000 smartphones
  • BlackBerry Storm 9500 series smartphones
  • BlackBerry Tour 9630 smartphones
  •

And lot of them does not have touch screens.

    Thanks.

Re: BlackBerry Widgets later simulator versions.

    Hi There,

The 9700 Simulator that is currently posted is a pretty old beta version of the 5.0 operating system.  We are working on getting an updated version of this Simulator available on the website.  Hopefully before the Developer Conference.

Widgets absolutely do work on non-touch screen devices.  A widget built with the current Widget SDK Beta that runs on a trackpad/trackball device will have the "pointer" like the browser.

However.... We do have a Widget navigation mode coming before the end of the year where you will be able to have focus based navigation on a trackpad/trackball device just like a Java application.

We will be showing this Navigation mode and describing how it works at the upcoming BlackBerry Developer Conference.
