The HTML5 roadmap still has nothing regarding headless apps.
The Live session about headless apps is "native" only.
When will we finally be able to run background services that our apps can use and how will it work?

We have spoken about this many times. Unfortunately at this point we don't have any concrete plans in place. If you want to run a headless application or service, your best bet is native.

I would suggest submitting use cases for what you would like to see to the issue tracker. That way we can get a good picture of how a WebWorks developer would want to use headless apps and how they would expect to be able to develop for them.

Hi there. We are looking at use cases for WebWorks apps needing to leverage background services. At this point the background service itself will still need to be Native, but we are looking to simplify through templates/tooling/samples or otherwise the process of leveraging a background service from a WebWorks application. We don't yet have a commited date for this, but as soon as we nail down scope for the release after 2.0, I will update the roadmap here:

Looks like headless is on track for May, according to the release road map page
