I had the same problem but in my case was able to restore the device using a Mac

 

If you know someone with a Mac install BB Desktop on it and reset the thing

 

For some reason the Mac client is less fussy than the PC version

 

This worked for me so my DevAlpha is up and running again with the latest OS build

 

While I can't guarantee this will work it's worth a go

@pearbox, was the red light blinking when you tried to charge it? mine give no signs that its working...

Yes and no

 

It's been in both states

 

I left it charging for ages an managed to get to the red blinking state then managed to get it working again with my Mac
