Hi all,

Completely new to using this simulator so please excuse the basic question! I'm running the MDS simulator and a BlackBerry 8700g simulator and trying to browse to the home page just to see it working. I'm getting the error:

Error 400: Bad request.

Showing the details gives me the error: Unknown host

My PC is running a reverse proxy (CCProxy) which should in theory automatically pass any HTTP requests through the proxy server at my company, and I initially suspect a problem with this. How does the MDS simulator work? Would it pass HTTP requests straight through using my reverse proxy or does it need to be configured separately for the proxy server we have here? There is no possibility of getting out to the internet without the proxy (even for developers) so I really need some help getting this running here.

Hi,

I've followed the steps in the KB article to enable proxy support for an MDS simulator. But this only seems to work for HTTP URL's. When I try to access an HTTPS URL from a Device Simulator I get a generic "The selected server returned an error when attempting to fulfill your request."

I tried adding the following lines under the HTTPS_HANDLER:
application.handler.https.proxyEnabled = true
application.handler.https.proxyHost={my proxy here}
application.handler.https.proxyPort={my proxy port here}

How can I configure the MDS simulator to allow my device simulator to access HTTPS url's?

Are you pointing the MDS Simulator to your local proxy, or your companies proxy?  Do you get the same results in both cases?

I'm pointing it at my companies proxy (the one I use in Internet Explorer).  Those are the only proxy settings I've ever dealt with at work.

Please follow the steps below to enable verbose logging in the MDS Simulator.

 

How To - Enable HTTP and HTML logging in the Mobile Data Service Simulator
Article Number: DB-00156

Also add these lines if they are not present in the rimpublic.property file.

 

Logging.file.location=logs
Logging.file.log.level=4

 

 

Then restart the MDS Simulator, make an HTTPS request and post the [date]_MDS_MDS.txt file located in your logs directory.

Since this is an HTTPS connection, less information about the connection is logged.  There isn't anything conclusive in the log file.  Are you able to reproduce this using an unencrypted HTTP connection?  Is this happening when using the BlackBerry Browser, a third party application in the BlackBerry Simulator or both?

I've seen the same behavior when using the Blackberry Browser and calling our webservice (SOAP over https).  I have not seen any problems with HTTP.

Does this happen consistently with any public HTTPS sites?  If so, please provide an example URL, the model and handheld software version of the BlackBerry Simulator (found under Options, About) along with the version of MDS Simulator you are using.

The URL I used to get the debug log was https://www.bankofamerica.com. 

 

The simulator I'm using right now is a Curve 8320 (4.2.2.161).  When I try to go to the URL in the simulator, it says "The selected server returned an error when attempting to fulfill your request."  The error comes up almost immediately.

 

In my code, I tried the following:

 HttpsConnection conn = null;
try
{
    conn = (HttpsConnection)Connector.open("https://www.bankofamerica.com");
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
    System.out.println(ex.toString());
    ex.printStackTrace();
}

 

And the output was:

net.rim.device.cldc.io.ippp.SocketBaseIOException: www.bankofamerica.com
No stack trace

I tried this using the same BlackBerry Simulator and MDS Simulator version 4.1.4 and was able to load the site.  What version of MDS Simulator are you using?

I'm using 4.1.4 as well.

 

It works fine for me as well if I'm not inside our corporate firewall.   Are you using a proxy to get to the internet?  If so, how is the proxy configured in the MDS config file?
