Error: Package-Name exceeds 50 chars

Hello,

I'm getting an error with Web works  that I don't know how to fix. When I compile my application with bbwp, I get this error:

[INFO]                  Parsing command line options
[INFO]                  Parsing bbwp.properties
[INFO]                  Validating WebWorks archive
[INFO]                  Parsing config.xml
[INFO]                  Populating application source
[INFO]                  Compiling WebWorks application
[INFO]                  Packaging the bar file
Using icon: C:\Users\Bruno\AppData\Local\Temp\widgetGen.5258851971303152259718.t
mp\bin-debug\appicon.png
Error: Package-Name exceeds 50 chars

I checked the <id> tag in the config.xml or the package used in the action script file and it doesn't contain 50 chars. Does anyone know where this error comes from and how to solve it ?

Thanks in advance,

Regards

Hi Bruno2203,

Is this on the PlayBook or Smartphone WebWorks SDK?

Re: Error: Package-Name exceeds 50 chars

There is a known issue with package names only being allowed 10 characters in length:

http://docs.blackberry.com/en/developers/deliverables/27271/BB_WebWorks_SDK_Tablet_Known_Issues_2.0_...

Recommend reducing the length of the  ZIP file name and trying again.

Cheers,

Adam

Your app doesn't work? Use BlackBerry remote web inspector to find out why.

Re: Error: Package-Name exceeds 50 chars

Nice.  ::smileysad:

So what if I have a product already listed in App World (compiled with a previous SDK version) whose ZIP/BAR file names are eighteen chars long?

The upgraded dev-guide says that I cannot change the filename with subsequent releases.  So...  Do I have to delete the whole product from App World, create a new one, and upload a new release into the new product?  Or...?

If you already have an app in App World, my advice would be to leave your application just the way it is.  Your app can be removed from the device using App World which is a work around to the problem.
The main application functionalilty that it doesn't allow you to do is lock your application's orientation.  This issue has already been fixed on the PlayBook OS and will be released as a wireless update shortly.
If it were me, I would just hold tight and the problem will fix itself.
