How soon will Webworks be replaced by Cordova?

Unless I got it wrong, there were talks at BB Jam Europe of moving towards the use of Cordova instead of the BlackBerry specific WebWorks when calling device APIs.

How soon wil this happen?

Re: How soon will Webworks be replaced by Cordova?

I see it more likely that there'll be a compatibility layer between the two whereby you can take Cordova and it 'just works' when built with WW

We have loads of stuff Cordova can't do so much like the Droid layer it would seem this is a way to get more apps onto the platform

Cordova is OK but lacking - we always build on BB then port over to the rest of the world via Cordova so it makes sense that BB would want the reverse to happen

Re: How soon will Webworks be replaced by Cordova?

Hmmm.... It's already possible to just use Cordova and target BB10 without using WebWorks (using the "compatibility layer") if you don't need any of the missing APIs, so I thought BlackBerry would just add more and more APIs to Cordova itself so that we don't have to call both frameworks any more.

It would be nice if we could get some official statement and some milestones. Are we talking Q3 or 2014?

If, like me, you missed the Roadmap session in Amsterdam it's all explained here at 16:00 for about 7 mins

Basically existing stuff still works and BB extensions are available

Thanks :smileyhappy:
I just don't get why we have to dig to have access to this info and why nobody from BB bothers to reply...

Re: How soon will Webworks be replaced by Cordova?

So I've watched the few minutes explaining where WebWorks was going and it's similar to what I did hear in other sessions, but the timeframe is still missing. Will we be able to use Cordova to build BB10 apps within the next 6 months or is this planned for next year?

As Bryan mentioned here: http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Web-and-WebWorks-Development/Cordova-Alignment/m-p/2205743#M3...

There is more information to come, and no, it is much sooner then next year. We are working to get there as soon as we can.
