Not able to use Web Inspector on my 7.0 device

Hi Experts,

I Followed below steps to use web inspector on my 7.0 device.

1.Build my web works app with following command.

bbwp <archive_file> -d -o <output_location>

Note: I did not use -g <password> option becuase i read somewhere that i cannot debug if i sign the app.

2.Load to device with following command.

JavaLoader load C:\Output\StandardInstall\App.cod

App is loaded to the device successfully.

When i try to open the Application It doesn't alert the IP address and port number.
Instead it alerts "Error starting xxxApp:Module 'xxApp' attempts to access a secure API."

My dear Experts please let me know what is wrong with the procedure i am following.

Re: Not able to use Web Inspector on my 7.0 device

Hi there,

You *can* combine the -d and -g parameters if you do it at the time of packaging (i.e. bbwp command.) If you run bbwp to create a debug package, you can not later sign it. And, if you create a signed package you can not later enable debug mode. However, combining the two is just fine.

In order for the COD file to be able to run on a physical device, it will need to be signed.

Re: Not able to use Web Inspector on my 7.0 device

A little clarification over what Erik says

Use -v -d -g <password> -b <buildID>

Although I don't do 7 any more I know this works

I'm not positive if the -b <buildID> is needed as I usually do full release versions unless writing something very tricky

Thanks a lot for your reply.

I As you suggessted I used below command to package and sign my app.

bbwp testApp.zip -d -g <password> -o <outfput folder>

But still it doesn't alert the IP address.

I connected my device to wifi then it alerted the IP address !!!

but i was not able to open the webpage from my chrome.

Blackberry documentation says ..

Verify that your device is connected to your computer via a USB connection, or is communicating on the same Wi-Fi network as the BlackBerry smartphone or BlackBerry tablet.

Note that Web Inspector only provides a USB IP address (required if you intend to use Web Inspector over a USB connection) if your device is already connected via a USB connection when Web Inspector is enabled.

I am able to load .cod file to my device via USB. I conclude that my device is connected to computer via USB but why it doesnot alert the IP address untill i connect the device to wifi.

Re: Not able to use Web Inspector on my 7.0 device

If you're connected to USB and it does not alert an IP, give 169.254.0.1:1337 a try; that is generally the default. if that does not work, you could try ports 1338 or 1339 as well.

I've seen it happen on occassion on BBOS where the IP isn't broadcast, but it is still being hosted at the default IP/port.

Re: Not able to use Web Inspector on my 7.0 device

Hi there,

Is your device connected to WiFi? If not (even if you do not connect to a hotspot), can you ensure that the WiFi radio is at least turned on? Also, if you are on the same WiFi as your PC, can you try disconnecting USB and launching the debug-mode application on the device while connected to WiFi (and not USB) to see if it broadcasts there?

Is content encryption enabled on your device?
