did you ever get this issue resolved? I'm trying to figure out how to run some code and network-related functions when my widget is running in the background.
Just for my curiosity I think this is not validy anymore or? What I can see is when a app is in the background and receiving a push notification its working without additional code.

I am trying to implement push notification for webworks application, Instead of opening the html page when push message comes, can we have a notification icon on the screen, when user clicks on the notification we should open the application.. Is this possible , please let me know , I am strucling with this thing...
