What do you think of the new WebWorks SDK?

If you've had a chance to try out the new BlackBerry WebWorks SDK, we'd like to hear from you.

We prepared a short, anonymous survey to gather feedback about your experience with the 2.0 SDK beta.  This feedback will be used to shape future releases of the BlackBerry WebWorks SDK, including our upcoming Gold release.

If you haven't had a chance to get the new SDK yet, you can get everything you need right here. And once you've had a chance to try it out, don't forget to complete the survey!

Re: What do you think of the new WebWorks SDK?

The survey is completed after I read the latest blackberry direct email.

does blackberry webkit use v8 javascript engine or not?

can the performance be BETTER ?

and the document should also be improved, cordova document for blackberry 10 is too less than other platforms.

below are my advices:

1.

when run "webworks run", the app lauches on device, and prompts an address for web-inspector

but, at this time, when you connect to the web inspector

you WON'T get any console.log outputs.

everytime I want to see the logs,i type location.reload() and watch.

2.

when trying to build an extension for webworks,

how do you debug it ?

all I can do is use slog2 to print some log information and connect to my device via ssh and see the slog2 output.

BUT CAN'T DEBUG directly.

will you improve this too?

3.

Of course,the i18n support.

Although BlackBerry seems don't care about Chinese market

I hope you provide the i18n support for webworks.

I'm talking about the config.xml , the bbui.js , etc.

everything you need to build an i18n app.

please fix this.thanks.

Re: What do you think of the new WebWorks SDK?

I'm finding that the --release flag is not disabling the web inspector. E.g., when I do this:

webworks build --release --keystorepass XXXX

webworks run --devicepass XXXX --no-launch --no-uninstall

And launch the app I still get 'Web Inspector Enabled...'.

Is this a known issue?

rtholmes,

This should do the trick:

webworks run --no-build

Re: What do you think of the new WebWorks SDK?

i'm on Debian/Linux, and very dissapointed to see that WebWorks 2.0 is for Mac & Windows only (i have brought up this issue on another thread).

just because of my curiousity, i downloaded Mac version and have a look on it.

result:

  1. it's not much different from BadToyz hack
  2. GUI is sucks, with very little capabilities (create, build, deploy)

Re: What do you think of the new WebWorks SDK?

Thanks for your help Bryan. It turns out I was a little too literal converting my build system to the new format from Tim Windsor's awesome ant script.

Re: What do you think of the new WebWorks SDK?

2.0 is much better than previous versions.

However GUI is not good. I was never able to delete project from GUI and even when I physically delete it it is still shown. If you have many projects it doesn't indicate you which one is active. Device passwords are not saved.Like it was in ripple.

Re: What do you think of the new WebWorks SDK?

Hi,

Once you figure out where the batch files are and where to write the required files to, it works like a charm. Was able to package an app and run it on the simulator in less than 48 hours, all troubeshooting considered. The documentation is there, just needs careful following. However, the documentation needs additional information about the operating environment for WebWorks (java version, paths, etc.)

Working on 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate OS with JRE8.
