"A communication failure occurred" when uploading file in simulator

I'm running Blackberry MDS Services Simulator 4.1.2 and using Blackberry 9530 device simulator.  v4.7.0.75

-Only the Blackberry Browser is an option on this simulator.

-The webpage is a form that has an input file browse button that selects an image file on the simulator.  The form submits, but after 20 - 30 seconds it seems to start timing out and eventually returns the error message below.

-The same webpage works on an actual Blackberry 9530 Storm device with no errors.

Error:

A communication failure occurred with the selected Mobile Data Service. The server may be busy, please try again later.  If the problem persists contact your administrator.

I was getting this same error message while trying to download GoogleMaps to my 9530 simulator running on the 4.7 JDE. I increased the timeout on the MDS and the download was fine; no more "A communication failure occurred"...

I opened the C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.7.0\MDS\config\rimpublic.property file in a text editor and added a 0 to every timeout setting I could find, effectively increasing them 10-fold.

Worked for me...

Re: "A communication failure occurred" when uploading file in simulator

Nice tip blueinc.  I noticed you were using the MDS from the JDE 4.7.0:

C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.7.0\MDS

I had been using the MDS from the standalone package from RIM:

C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Email and MDS Services Simulators 4.1.2\MDS

As soon as I tried the JDE 4.7.0 MDS, it worked without making any rimpublic.property changes!

So it seems the bug is with the "BlackBerry Email and MDS Services Simulators 4.1.2" MDS.  Thanks for pointing me inadvertently in the right direction!

It would be nice if RIM could fix the standalone MDS.

diesel45, thanks for that information!  I encountered the same problem with MDS Services 4.1.2, and managed to fix it by upgrading to MDS Services 4.1.4!

One note, version 4.1.4 is not listed in the "Full list of smartphone simulators".  I was able to find it by going to:

Home   >   Developers   >   Java Application Development >  Java Application Development Tools & Download

This link should take you there.

nickknw, Great tip on the new standalone MDS, I'll check it out.  Nice of RIM to hide it :smileyhappy:
