i am trying to use , as suggested in developer documentation for BB10:
<rim:splash src="splash-1024x600.png" />
<rim:splash src="splash-600x1024.png" />
<rim:splash src="splash-1280x768.png" />
<rim:splash src="splash-768x1280.png" />
but whatever is the first image specified is picked up irrespective of the height and width of the phone.
what is the use of above element then, if its not able to automatically identify which splash to be picked up for which device?
is this is an error for rim:splash and needs to be logged in Git. please let me know.

I dont think there is a need to provide the resolution as long as the orientation is different . i normally use
for splash screen for the default orientaion.

I use the same thing in my Built For BlackBerry samples and the proper screen is detected fine. Also works for landscape vs. portrait for me.
<rim:splash src="splash-1280x768.png"/> <rim:splash src="splash-720x720.png"/>

I believe that you can have the three
<rim:splash src="splash-1280x768.jpg"/> - Z10 landscape
<rim:splash src="splash-1280x768.jpg"/> - Z10 Portrait
<rim:splash src="splash-720x720.jpg"/> - Q10
Even futher there is localatized splash screen for different languages as:
<rim:splash src="locales/fr/splash-1280x768.jpg"/> - Z10 landscape French
. . .

The images are selected based on their size, not filename. Make sure these are sized exactly to match different form factors/oreintation and the OS will pick up the correct one at runtime.

@lathajagan, the size of splash image needs to match the physical dimensions (720x720), not reference dimensions (346x346).
What you need to do is create an image of the following sizes using an image editor of your choice.
720x720 for Q10
1280x768 for Z10 Landscape
768x1280 for Z10 Portrait
Then, place your 346x346 designed image in the center - or something similar, give it a background, etc.
