i'm developing an application targeting multiple screen sizes and have developed my assets for a 16:9 aspect ratio, but scalable.
one thing that i don't quite understand is that the BlackBerry PlayBook is being marketed as having both 16:9 AR and the ability to play 1080p HD video. however, the PlayBook's AR isn't quite 16:9 or 1.78 (it's 1.71) and how can it play 1080p HD video if the pixel width is 1024?

It looks like you are right about the 1024x600 resolution not being exactly 16:9. I am not sure why this is.
As for the 1080p video playback, that is only when outputted to a TV with the HDMI port. It would obviosly be scaled down when played on the device's screen.
