A few questions about the xml file

I havent released anything for a while and was wondering about a few things.

There used to be a blackberry-tablet.xml and now it's a bar-descriptor.xml, is that right?

In the bar descriptor I have, author, author id, category, icon, splashscreen, build id and permissions. Is that all I need?

What categories are their these days? Core.what?

What is a build ID?

Can you change the render mode in the xml for a playbook? I usually use gpu on other devices. Will this work on the playbook?

What size icons do I need, is it still just 86px?

Thanks for your help!

A search for bar-descriptor.xml using the search box on the main dev portal page at

takes me to detailed descriptions under the native SDK micro-site.  Perhaps you

were looking just under the AIR SDK micro-site (the xml file docs don't seem to be

cross-linked there).  RIM dev folks - it might be a good idea to at least link to the xml

file docs from under the AIR SDK micro-site.

Here's the first hit for the search I did:

and you can drill down from there to answer most if not all of your questions.

You can also drill down into the example bar-descriptor.xml files in the example apps, e.g.
