BB10 bar-descriptor <action>access_internet</action>

Hi,

I'm trying to port an app to BB10, on the PlayBook, in my bar-descriptor, I had

<permission>access_internet</permission>, on first launch, it prompted to allow the app to use internet.

On the BB10 though, no prompt, and internet not accessible...

I also tried with <action>access_internet</action>, but to no avail...

Anyone else having issues with internet_access permission on BB10??

Oh and by the way, anybody knows if the <permission> tag was changed to <action>?

I noticed that upon creating a bar-descriptor with the native SDK, the tag was <action> instead of <permission>...

Thanks!

Re: BB10 bar-descriptor <action>access_internet</action>

Is it crashing? Have you included the correct ANEs for your app?
<permission>access_internet</permission> is correct.

Works fine for me to the BB10 Dev Alpha phone.

<permission> was the original tag. At one time, RIM said that it would be changed to <action>, but all the tools still generate <permission>. I believe it looks for either tag. I think something else is going on with your app that is outside of the permission tag. If you set it to <permission>access_internet</permission> does it work under BB10 Dev Alpha or Sim?

Re: BB10 bar-descriptor <action>access_internet</action>

Hi,

I confirm the Native SDK for BB10 generates <action>

I think I have all the anes, QNXDevice, QNXNetwork, QNXSensors and QNXSkins.

I also tried <permission>access_internet</permission> and no prompt, no access granted.

Note I don't think it has to do with the app, it looks more like a system issue, I tried the same permission with a small native test and even with a python test, but no luck, access_internet is not granted

I security wiped the Dev Alpha, I am wondering if this could be the reason why it is not working...

Didn't try on the simulator, I don't have that installed.

Odd. I have a sample Dev Alpha app that accesses the internet fine. Assuming you can get to the Internet via the browser?

Re: BB10 bar-descriptor <action>access_internet</action>

Internet from the browser works, but apps are not granted permission to access, even if the tag is present in the bar-descriptor.xml.

Now that you confirm it works, I really think the security wipe is the cause of the troubles, I suppose you didn't wipe yours?

Re: BB10 bar-descriptor <action>access_internet</action>

No I did not. Did you check the app permissions under the device preferences? Maybe it is set, but just turned off.

Re: BB10 bar-descriptor <action>access_internet</action>

I checked, all permissions listed in app-descriptor.xml are there except access_internet, it's not even unchecked, it's completely missing.

Delete app, restart device, reload change anything?

Re: BB10 bar-descriptor <action>access_internet</action>

Also just tried if any difference between Debug/Release, and none.

Really weird, camera permission is ok, files is ok, device identity is ok, just no access_internet...
