BlackBerry Signing Tool for Tablet OS Now Live!

The deadline for the free BlackBerry PlayBook offer is fast approaching. Whether you already submitted your app, or you plan to soon, your app needs to be signed before it can be accepted into BlackBerry App World.

We’re excited to announce that you can now sign apps using the latest version of the Tablet OS SDK. Below is a quick overview of how to get started with application signing on the Tablet OS. Be sure you have installed the most recent version of either the BlackBerry Tablet OS SDK for Adobe AIR, or the BlackBerry WebWorks SDK for Tablet OS. You can download the latest version of either SDK from http://us.blackberry.com/developers/tablet/.

Before you start signing your application, you have to register with the RIM Signing Authority. Fill out the web form at https://www.blackberry.com/SignedKeys. Registration is free, but you need a credit card to complete the registration process. A $1 hold will be placed on your account to verify the credit card. The hold is released after your credit card company accepts the transaction. The hold will not appear on your monthly bill. When the registration process is complete, you receive a CSJ registration file via email.

Instructions on signing your application can be found here:

MSohm,

At the time of writing this the link on the Signing your application page that is suppose to go to https://www.blackberry.com/SignedKeys/ just loads the Signing your application page again.

Re: BlackBerry Signing Tool for Tablet OS Now Live!

I am having an issue signing up for the keys.  I have tried on chrome and firefox.  When I submit the https://www.blackberry.com/SignedKeys/processform.do form it does not seem to process.  It just comes back with no error message but the state I selected gets unselected.

Look for an error message on the top portion of the page.  The error form refreshes (with your previous info) if something is incorrect.  There is a issue with the form where it doesn't repopulate the state that will be fixed in the future.

Re: BlackBerry Signing Tool for Tablet OS Now Live!

Yes, you have to look carefully for the error message.  Two errors I got were:

  • Did not like '$' in the pin
  • Page refresh lost the state selection, so it had to be re-selected.
  •  Country pull down and pressing a key to jump to an item in the list (e.g. 'U' for USA), does not activate the change in the list of states.  You have to physically select the pulldown and scroll to the desired coutry for the states to update properly.

Re: BlackBerry Signing Tool for Tablet OS Now Live!

When registering for signing keys you have to pick either tablet os or blackberry phone, so I would assume you will have to register for a Tablet OS key as well

Also, make sure that one of the two 'delivery' radio buttons are selected at the bottom of the page. Somehow I got into a state where neither of them were selected..

You need new keys. Tablet code signing is different than smartphone code signing (hence the selector on the form for which one you want).
