Extension to Base Dialog does not open and show in Simulator

This is baffling me. I can create and display a base dialog in my app like so:

            var d:BaseDialog = new BaseDialog();
            d.dialogSize = DialogSize.SIZE_LARGE;
            d.align = DialogAlign.CENTER;
            d.addButton("Save");
            d.addButton("Cancel");
            d.hideOnButtonClick = true;
            d.title = "Create Vehicle";
            d.show();

I get the following console output while debugging:

BaseDialog.constructor
BaseDialog property object  Save
BaseDialog property object  Cancel
GROUP ID: null
Current ID: null
Dialog Interface instantiated as DialogManager
DialogManager open
SEND show
New ID: 1

Everything works fine. The dialog pops up and I can interact with it normally.

If I create even the simplist extention to BaseDialog it will not open. Here is my simple extension:

package
{
    import qnx.dialog.BaseDialog;

    public class VehicleDialog extends BaseDialog {

        public function VehicleDialog() {
            super();
        }
    }
}

Here is my new launch code and my new output:

            var d:VehicleDialog = new VehicleDialog();
            d.dialogSize = DialogSize.SIZE_LARGE;
            d.align = DialogAlign.CENTER;
            d.addButton("Save");
            d.addButton("Cancel");
            d.hideOnButtonClick = true;
            d.title = "Create Vehicle";
            d.show();

BaseDialog.constructor
BaseDialog property object  Save
BaseDialog property object  Cancel
GROUP ID: null
Current ID: null
Dialog Interface instantiated as DialogManager
DialogManager open
SEND show
New ID: 1

I get the same output from but no dialog appears on the screen.

If I try to open multiple dialogs using my extended class I'll get the same output with the "New ID:" incremented each time. 1, 2, 3, etc but no dialog ever appears on the simulator? Has anyone successfully extend the qnx BaseDialog?

Re: Extension to Base Dialog does not open and show in Simulator

In case anyone was wondering, I re-watched the AdobeMAX playbook presentation and they mentioned you will not be able to extend these dialogs because they use native playbook implementations.

They did also mention that the skin graphics would be available to create your own dialogs that look like native dialogs, but I have yet to find these graphics.

Re: Extension to Base Dialog does not open and show in Simulator

Dialogs is a service on the PB, so it wuld be impossible to extend it in local address space unless the service provided layout hooks.  This is also the same reason why it does not work outside of the simulator.
