Got Game? Get Rewarded!

From the BlackBerry Developer Blog.

From the BlackBerry Developer Blog.

With all the developer programs we’ve been launching lately, are you getting the feeling that we really want to help you take advantage of all the opportunities associated with BlackBerry® 10? It’s true, we do. Now there’s another cool event to tell you about: The BlackBerry Got Game Port-a-Thon.

The BlackBerry Got Game Port-a-Thon is a 36-hour event dedicated to helping you get your gaming apps launched for BlackBerry 10. Since it’s a virtual event, participating is simple and hassle-free. You just register and log in from the comfort of your own space. You bring your existing gaming apps or build new gaming apps for BlackBerry 10, and we’ll have experts on hand around the clock to help you get your gaming apps up and running on BlackBerry 10.

The more you port and build, the more you get*

Getting your apps into the BlackBerry App World storefront before BlackBerry 10 launches means that you can be among the first to benefit from the universe of app-hungry customers out there. You’ll also get rewards for porting and building.

  • Get one or two gaming apps approved – $100 per eligible app.
  • Get between two and five gaming apps approved – $100 per eligible App and one (1) BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet
  • Get between five and ten gaming apps approved - $100 per eligible App + one (1) BlackBerry PlayBook tablet + FOR THE FIRST ONE HUNDRED (100) QUALIFIED PARTICIPANTS ONLY one (1) Dev Alpha Device
  • Get more than 10 gaming apps approved - $100 per app + one (1) BlackBerry PlayBook tablet + FOR THE FIRST TEN (10) QUALIFIED PARTICIPANTS ONLY one (1) Dev Alpha Device + trip to Game Developers Conference in San Francisco March 25-29, 2013

One-on-one support

Technical folks from Research In Motion will be on hand for the entire 36 hours of the Port-a-Thon to provide you with online technical support. If you get stuck or have a question, you can submit it much like you would in a webcast. If it’s something that should be handled privately, you can head to a private chat with the technical expert.

You’ll also have access to high-profile RIM gaming personalities and presentations that share insider tips and tricks.

Prepare to port and build

Since more apps ported and built means more rewards*, it’s in your best interest to get a few things ready before you join the event. Here’s what you need:

    1. Register for BlackBerry App World if you haven’t already.
    2. Request signature keys. Make sure that you select for BlackBerry® PlayBook™ OS and BlackBerry 10 and higher. Downloading in advance is strongly recommended as the time involved to do so could prevent you from earning some rewards.
    3. Load up your laptop BlackBerry tools and plug-ins. Make sure you have your full source code file readily available too.
    4. Make sure you have your images and icons ready to go.

We also have porting tips and guides you can use to get a head start at developer.blackberry.com.

Let’s Play

Get your gaming apps working harder for you. Register for the BlackBerry Got Game Port-a-Thon.

*Limited to the first twenty (20) approved Apps per participant. There is a limit of one (1) BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha device per BlackBerry App World vendor. To qualify for a Reward, you must register on the website at http://developer.blackberry.com/webcasts/gameportathon and submit your App into the BlackBerry App World Vendor Portal between 12:00:01 pm on November 16, 2012 and 11:59:59pm ET on November 17, 2012. Any Apps submitted outside this time frame are not eligible for this Reward program. Only those Apps that have been approved through BlackBerry App World and RIM will be considered towards a Reward. See the Official Terms and Conditions for complete details.

Re: Got Game? Get Rewarded!

sounds awesome! though I feel a bit sad that I already ported some of my games to BB10, and that Marmalade currently has a problem with its loader (see here https://www.madewithmarmalade.com/devnet/forum/bb10-dev-alpha-support-status ) which won't be fixed in time Smiley Surprised

so, how will you see if an app was uploaded correctly? it seems to be that the only requirement is to upload your app(s) in the given timeframe, is that correct? (being approved is a different matter). So, what I should be doing now is to get my 10 or more gaming apps BB10 ready and have them somewhere on my computer until the next weekend to upload them?

Also, regarding the term 'BB10 ready': as we currently only have dev alpha devices for testing, BB10 ready should be 'has to work on dev alpha' and not the rumoured device with the keyboard and the square display, correct?

Sorry for bothering, I just want to have these things clarified

The qwerty device will not be until after spring release of BB10 touch. We've been told that we will get a simulator with the qwerty screen size.

I have a bunch of Air/Android apps that I would like to port to BB10. Is that allowed for the Port-a-Thon or must an app been published in the BB World already?

Re: Got Game? Get Rewarded!

Hi,

I have some AIR apps for playbook. If I repurpose the same apps for Blackberry 10, would those be considered valid? Also as per the Terms and guidlines, if I submit the app within timeline, I can also resubmit the app before 25th of this month. Can I resubmit the app even if that is not rejected by App World?

Yes, any Game for BlackBerry 10 is eligible.  Any app game accepted by BlackBerry App World will qualify.  You can resubmit an app, but the apps must be reviewed by Dec 16.  I would wait until your app is reviewed and then resubmit based on the review.

We would love to see those Game apps on BlackBerry 10.  There is no need for the app to be published in BlackBerry App World already.  Note that Game apps on the BlackBerry PlayBook also qualify.  It’s any Game app for BlackBerry 10 that is eligible.

We are working feverishly to get a fix with Marmalade and will work with developers that submit those apps to get them working on BlackBerry 10.  So, yes please participate and bring your games made with Marmalade!  We will work with you and others to ensure they are working during the review timeframe.

So it doesn't matter if it's a game or not? "any app accepted by blackberry app world will qualify"

Re: Got Game? Get Rewarded!

Hi Mark,

thanks for your answer.

I'm looking forward to bring my apps to BB10!

There is just one problem! The packager for Android apps (https://bdsc.webapps.blackberry.com/android/bpaa/) always shows me this error for my game.apk:

ImpactTypeReason 5 / native-code / armeabi-v7a

Even for a game that I packed successfully around 6 months ago it shows me that error now.

Is that a bug? What do I need to change to make it work?

Thanks

Re: Got Game? Get Rewarded!

hi, mark

I already have some playbook apps in appworld.

weeks ago, I submited the bb10 version  ,and got approved.

Should I resubmit the app in the timeline to join this event ?

about sumit

there are two ways to submit the bb10 app, which is better ?

1) make a new app product entry at appworld, and upload the bb10 app

2) make the bb10 release version , and add to the exist app product (now ,only  support playbook )

thanks
