How to play an MP4 format files in Playbook

Hello,

We were trying to load an MP4 format file in the application, but the behavior is weird .

We tried to play a MP4 format file in the application with no other functionalities , it is successful to an extent`,

We can see the video after a little amount of time.

Later we tried to play the same video in my project with many functionalities but it was  a dud attempt, we couldn't trace the video. But the application is getting closed after particular time ( time duration of the video ).

We are using netstreams in playing the video,

Thank you,

Re: How to play an MP4 format files in Playbook

Having a similar problem. We're porting an Android app and the video isn't displaying. All of the controls and progress bars are functioning, but the video isn't displaying. We are using the typical MP4 setup with netstream and the video class. Is this just a limitation in the simulator or do we have to switch to the qnx mediaplayer?

Re: How to play an MP4 format files in Playbook

I remember reading something about how there are a number of Codecs missing from the simulator or device or both. Basically, RIM hasn't had the time to get the proper licensing in place. Could this be the problem?

Re: How to play an MP4 format files in Playbook

I believe the codec(s) are the issue. I did find some other threads talking about the same thing, just for the v0.9 SIM build. Apparently the codecs are still missing in the latest release. Thanks for the reply, much appreciated!

Hello, Have you deployed the application on the device , is it reacting in the same way? And will qnx mediaplayer be advantageous to use ? Thanks

Re: How to play an MP4 format files in Playbook

Hello,

Finally i am able to play a MP4 formatted file on the playbook by using this code snippet,

var video:Video;

var connect_nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();

connect_nc.connect(null);

var stream_ns:NetStream = new NetStream(connect_nc);

stream_ns.client = this;

function netStatusHandler(p_evt:NetStatusEvent):void

{

}

stream_ns.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, netStatusHandler);

video = new Video();

video.x=0;

video.y=0;

video.attachNetStream(stream_ns);

stream_ns.play("Boeing 787 Flight Video Takeoff -cut.mp4");

stage.addChild(video);

And for your information, this code doesn't react normally on the simulator. Check it on the device directly

Thanks,
