Plans to Open Source BB AIR SDK?

With limited resources at BB now a day and that AIR has become less important toolkit for BB, are there any plans to open source the BB AIR SDK?

I know the runtime is integrated in the OS, but are there any plans to just allow captive runtime?

Re: Plans to Open Source BB AIR SDK?

Hi jtegen,

We don't have plans to open source the AIR runtime.  But we are looking at a few different options.  I can't quite get into the details just yet as we are still working through some different technical feasibility questions.

I did not mean the AIR runtime, but the AIR SDK for BB.

Re: Plans to Open Source BB AIR SDK?

They are both pretty intimately tied together.  We don't have current plans to open soure neither the Runtime nor the SDK

Re: Plans to Open Source BB AIR SDK?

How about plans to update the flash runtime?  More importantly the flash player level?

Just curious as it feels that at least from the browser perspective it appears an upgrade in flash player could upgrade the overall experience.

Re: Plans to Open Source BB AIR SDK?

That will be highly unlikely since Adobe does not open the runtime. There is just a few things in the SDK that would have to be undone (eg. hooks to low level windows).

Re: Plans to Open Source BB AIR SDK?

Just go an email on an old JIRA ticket.

"No further updates planned for AIR SDK".

Maybe BB can open source the QNXSkin ANE.

And there it is...the nail in the coffin.  Oh well, onto the next thing.

Re: Plans to Open Source BB AIR SDK?

I had a bunch of old tickets in JIRA that it looks like they are finally looking at and closing.  Another one:

"No future updates are scheduled for the BB10 AIR SDK & runtime"

May it rest in peace.
