I never get an IP address in the simulator. Is there a trouble shooting document or log file somewhere I can use to try and find out what is wrong ?
Does it require a DHCP server or something, for instance ?

If you have the VMware Player networking mode set to Bridged you would need a DHCP server on your network.
If you set it to NAT or host-only, you should not need that, but possibly firewall issues or a misconfiguration of VMware could cause the problem.
How are you determining that you do NOT have an address in the simulator? (It should always have some address, since even for DHCP it has to start off with something, before it's given a lease on another.)

It's set to NAT in the virtual machine settings.
I can tell I don't have an IP address by pressing the hammer icon after going into development mode. It says "Expires in 10 days IP Address: <no interfaces available>".
My primary network connection on the real machine is a wireless one, if that is any help at all.

If it's set to NAT, the outside world shouldn't affect it much. I'd say check into your firewall situation, maybe temporarily turning it off (and restarting VMware) to see if that helps.
Also, any chance you've disabled any of the VMware virtual interfaces in the control panel Networking configuration?

Thanks for the new ideas.
No, not disabled in the networking control panel.
I turned off the AV systems firewall and restarted VMware player. No change.
I turned of the Windows firewall too, no change.
This is getting frustrating. Been through all the hoops of the developer process and then the simulator is dead...
