stage3d controls and frameworks

Just doing some research, and we can probably expect the QNX controls to be stage3D accelerated once that becomes available, but there are additional sources that might be of interest to AIR developers that they could start playing with in preparation of AIR 3.4:

For 3D : Away3D 4.0 (http://away3d.com)  - A full featured, continually evolving, open source 3D engine using Stage3D. Away3D can be work together with Starling so both 2D and 3D frameworks can utilise the same Stage3D instance.


I've been waiting for Stage3D on the Playbook for aaaaaages, and still the wait continues.

Another thing you can look forward to with 3.4 is project monocle. I'm not sure what the final requirements will be but I believe it will be supported in Flash Builder 4.7 and AIR 3.4.

Monocle will actually work with older .swf's and AIR versions, but you'll need to tweak the swf file with a python script to enable instrumentation. Not sure how it will work remotely on the PlayBook though.
