When I was researching this (BB OS 10.1.0), they explicitly told me, that there was no way for a custom android application to communicate to a custom native application. Android runtime inside BlackBerry is in a sandbox and totally separated from the rest of the system.
You can launch *some* native applications from Android using Android intents, e.g. a file intent will start the default file manager, gallery intent will launch the system gallery app, PDF intent will start Adobe reader etc. But those apps have been specially integrated into BlackBerry's Android runtime.
You also can not register Android apps to become the default app for file types or actions, for example, you can't register your app to open .pdf email attachments, the users have to save the attachment and then open it through your application's facilities.
BlackBerry people, please correct me, if things have changed in later releases.

I do have a custom Android app communicating with a custom native BlackBerry app. However what I now need is for one to send something to launch the other. Share framework was supposed to be able to launch the Android app with Android being a share target and BlackBerry sending an ACTION_OPEN. Unfortunately that did not work like it was supposed to. I really would liek to know if there is another way, or plans for the immediate future to implement something for this.
