You can perhaps use the following as a work-around for now

 

TimeZone tz = TimeZone.getTimeZone("...");

int offset = tz.getRawOffset();

Thank you for this suggestion! :-)

 

But my intention was not to get the time zone offset. As I wrote in my first post ("This also makes all computations using this class wrong") I was trying to do computations using this class (e.g. adding a day or an hour to a date/time by taking the local time zone and DST into account). I am now using the standard Java "java.util.Calendar" class instead but I wanted to report this bug, because it will break BB's compatibility with other Android apps.
