There will be support to compose and send SMS text messages via an intent. For roadmap details and timelines, check out our release roadmap page: http://developer.blackberry.com/android/tools/road

I apprecciate the effort RIM spent in this android runtime... I hope you all the success you worth.
In any case it seems that the support for the intent to send SMS is scheduled for this month.
May I be sure that this intent will be supported on the next BB10 devices that you will release?
Suppose that tomorrow your SDK will support this intent and I release an app that uses this intent,
what about playbook? Does playbook support this intent?

The support is specifically for BlackBerry 10 devices, if you have a BlackBerry PlayBook applicaiton that uses this intent, that feature would not be supported.

mmm this is a problem for me...
I have an approved release for BB10 and Playbook.
I want to add the SMS support now, how can I remove the old release for BB10 and upload a new release for BB10 only?

I believe in the App World vendor potal you can select which OS platform your application is for. So you should be able to target one version for only BlackBerry PlayBook and another for BlackBerry 10.

is playbook the last device that lacks this support?
can you tell me if the next BlackBerry tablets will use BB10 and will support this API?

The BlackBerry PlayBook will indeed receive the BlackBerry 10 operating system after the launch of the platform on the smartphone side of our offerings.
With respect to the ability to send an SMS message on the PlayBook, this will not be supported as a result the PlayBook not having the necessary phone stack to do so (hardware limitation). Our developer tools which allow you to port your Android app via the BlackBerry Runtime for Android apps will give you necessary information within the outputted WRN file to support all BlackBerry 10 offerings.
