Yeah, the bbm icon trick didn't do it for me either. With these many reported cases, you'd think RIM have a solution by now, or at least they should know what's causing this.

Re: BBM only works on wifi, what phones are you using?

@Rich: I don't think they have the solution right now, otherwise they'll be jump in this conversation and told us what should we do

@ainzizou: your problem slightly different with mine, in my case, wifi connection only needed only after turn off and on the device, after that, it work just fine using packet data, but some time...some time only...after a few hour it need to connected to wifi again

I've been a loyal customer to bb eversince they come to my country, no meaningful error... till now... and lame service and feedback from them.. now I have so dissapointed

Re: BBM only works on wifi, what phones are you using?

Here's how I solved mine.

Using Samsung Galaxy Note 2 7100 with Android 4.3

Go to Settings>More Networks>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names

tap the Options button (physically to the left of the home button) and hit Reset to default.

within 10 seconds all your chat Apps including BBM should be connected to your 3G/4G.

Please note that this step also resolves the issue for WhatsAPP.

Re: BBM only works on wifi, what phones are you using?

it didn't work. Might be a completely different issue, since only BBM doesn't work. Whatsapp and other messengers work just fine.

Re: BBM only works on wifi, what phones are you using?

Go through that step again. Check your Access Point Names. Do you have wap settings or gprs settings? Mine was wap but doinga reset took me to gprs.

Yeah, still doesn't work. It stays on WAP before and after reseting, nothing's changed.

Re: BBM only works on wifi, what phones are you using?

Hi,
Mine is sony xperia zlte
i had resolved bbm connection using mobile data issue by following these steps:
go to setting> wireless&networks> mobile networks> access point names> wap> proxy
delete proxy number till it shows 'not set'
save the setting
bbm will automatically run on mobile data instead of on wifi
