Hi, I just started using the BBM app and I want to know how secure is the BBM app compared to other messaging apps? There has been a lot of talk about this.
Does BBM encrypt my messages end-to-end? Can you please provide me lots of details on security and what sets BBM apart. Thanks!

If you are referring to confidentiality, then one BBM message travels from your phone to the BBM servers through an SSL tunnel (meaning your carrier cannot see what you have typed). And then from the BBM servers through another SSL tunnel to the phone of your recipient.
The SSL keys are known by BlackBerry only, and the BBM servers are supposed to be located on Canada soil (except for some that are in India for India clients).
If you are referring to reliability to the network, your BBM app manages if your iPhone loses the network, and will try again several times for several days. If it fails, you will know because the icon will be grey next to your line of text.
Then it will become blue (received by your recipient's phone) then green (read). Those are called the 'Dirty R'.
If you are referring to non-repudiability, the authentication through the BBID is strong and :
if you ar referring to Quality of Service, if I recall correctly the availability of the BBM services is higher than 99.999% but I do not have the article at hand right now.
From a security point of view, BBM is much better than SMS/iMessage, and than other text IMs like WhatsApp/Viber/GTalk/Skype/Y!M .
I have no information regarding WeChat and Line.
