My BES host provider just turned on bbm protected for me. I'm running in balance mode and BBM was only installed once on my personal side. It shows bbm protected now. But, since I can't attach files in bbm from the work side my bes admin told me to download bbm from bbw on the work side also. Since it's the same bbid and two bbm's on the same phone won't this cause an issue or is this the correct thing to do with the new balance update?

I justed wanted to update my post in case someone else could use this info.
So, I found out the answer on my own. I added the bbm app on the work side of my balance device (Q10) from the work blackberry world (per the bes admin since he loaded it there). When it opened it associated with the same bbid that is on the personal side and bbm prompty begain to become unusable on both the personal and work space. Eventually it just locked up saying it was trying to set up my bbm. I did a restore to my phone from a backup that I took just prior to trying this. No luck, same issue. Final solution was, do a security wipe of the phone, then put the backup on that I had taken prior to trying this AND re-activate my balance mode via BES once the admin sent a reactivation email. I'm now back to normal and have bbm protected working. The BBM app is ONLY on the personal side.

Installing BBM on your work side will not give you the functionality you are requesting. You should not install two versions of BBM on the device. BBM is a personal application, BBM Protected on Balance (personal vs work side) is designed to be on the personal side of the device. BBM Protected provides data in transit protection and its up to the enterprise, in this case your BES host provider to provide data at rest protection by turning on the appropriate IT Policy.
I'd suggest speaking to your BES admin an ask about the restrictions on data and weather they can be altered, if yes they can make the nessasary changes.
Hope this helps,
