link not detecting internet?

hello all, new to bb just recently picked up the z10 and downloaded link desktop software. the problem i am having is that when i try to "sign in"  i get a error message saying "unable to sign into your bb ID confirm that you are connected to the internet and try again"? i am connected to the internet via a tethering through my other cell phone. just wondering if the is a proxy configuration or network setting option in this software?

Are you able to login at www.blackberry.com/blackberryid on your computer when tethered?
