BUG: PIM draining battery due to high data consumption. With Solution

I have had a problem previously where my phone would get hot and my battery would die within 4 hours (I'm on Q10).

 

I did some digging around, found out that PIM was constantly downloading/uploading large amounts of data. Up to 400-500mb in 48 hours.

 

For someone that only has a 1GB data plan for the month, this is no good.

 

After more searching I found out one of my accounts (my college email account), was not able to be authenticated. In my case it was due to my college's server being down or some sort of network error on their part.

 

So my solution is for the end user, check which account is not being authenticated. Delete it.

 

For BlackBerry, I'd suggest to do some checking to see if an account is not able to log in. In that case try up to a certain number of times to connect, then after that, let the user know an account is not responding and has been disconnected. Therefore it's not caught in an infinite loop trying to reconnect the account.

I've gotten those messages in the past when I had a server down, an error message or warning from the BlackBerry saying not able to connect to the server. I am surprised you didn't.
