Re: Feature Requests for BlackBerry10 OS

[ Edited ]

Here is a link, check the "feedback" section.

https://www.uservoice.com/#feedback-forums

This is what I am referring to, even if it is voted back to dark ages, RIM or BB can simply reject the idea and say "rejected" and then if anyone wants to continue voting they may, knowing that it's been rejected..

If people want the last gen features in next gen device, well, they can always go back to 9900. If the features that kept people from going to other platforms are missing in newer systems, BB won't have much chance in this business. There are still very cool features, but look at it this way, if some members never read some of these threads, they would never know about the functionality they know now. Have you seen the "Instruction Booklet" included with Z10 box? it is a joke. We are not teaching a 6 year old how to make a call... Show us what the phone is capable of, run advertisements, sure Youtube videos are nice, but make a quick list, let people see what is there.. Did you see the recent video with Google Maps "tap and pull".. It is everywhere and honestly it is overhyped, imagine if same thing was going around about blackberry.. It all comes down to marketing, distribution and presentation. I am sorry I am steering away from the topic.

https://www.uservoice.com/#feedback-forums

I am not affiliated with above company at all, I hope I am not misunderstood.

Edit: I just checked, they even have a free edition, I wonder if I should start it myself, or maybe Joey can do it?

Is RIM/BB really expecting carrier to relay every single issue to Blackberry? Are they confident that carrier will even pool the requests and submit them in a nice condenced report? I seriously doubt it.

Ride_The_Sky, to answer your question, actually, yes. That's the way it works.
Carrier's escalate issues and your requests upward (and you shoudl ask them to do so, and get the incident number for the case) and it is logged with BlackBerry Tech support. Enough of one issue (and it's not a high number, like in the single digits) and BlackBerry Tech support says "Hey, we got a problem here, there's something more than a single user issue here.", and it's thrown up for review and response.

At least that's the way it was explained to me. And that's the way it's worked in the past, and I suppose still is.

Otherwise, there are dozens of RIM employees out on the internet, twitter, etc., who are listening. Find one and pass along your request.

Is there anyway for us all to get together and make a big list,

There are 235 posts in this thread. Half of them are offtopic as "Feature Requests" and stuff like mine and your recent posts, which are not Feature Requests.

And that's why it'd be nice to keep the thread ON topic.

Meanwhile, some enterprising soul is welcome to scour this thread and make a complete list if they wish, and then update the thread in ONE post as a reference.

There are full manuals here:

I like the idea of the site for the list. No problem with that. Fine with me.
I 'm just keeping it here in these official support forums.

I did that with the "Tips & Tricks" forum, and I am getting ready to dump my list of stuff I did not see listed in there, you can take a look at it shorty.

I am trying to do the same with this, but I will need a bit more time for that. I already have my own feature requests for next OS update, and that is already very comprehansive as it is, mostly valid requests (from my point of view) and I will dump them in this thread shortly as well, but let me read to make sure they weren't covered already.

Thanks for confirming that carrier will actually escalate them. This means we have to start telling people to call their carrier/operator and get a trouble ticket or reference number and follow up with the problems, hopefully callers identify their requests or problems in similar ways so carrier can actually recognize they are similar problems, or requests for the future OS updates.

Re: Feature Requests for BlackBerry10 OS

Yes Corytoddla, by what I can read in this Feature-Request I haven't yet seen any good reason for abandoning my BB9900. My BB9900 would be perfect if I could import S/MIME certificates and use them in my emails without BES/BIS, and other kind of servers.
With hope, just wait and see . . .

IF you compile the list here and let me know, I will get my own initial post edited (with credit to given to you) with your compiled list, or however we see might be best.

I have updated the Tips/Tricks initial post a couple times already, and will do so again soon, so the initial post is fresh.

Re: Feature Requests for BlackBerry10 OS

@drewread, my responses are in-line in dark red.

@syplex, I'll try to answer some of these (again...), but I'm, not touching Link with a 10' pole. Smiley Wink

syplex wrote:

1. Make deleting items from the Hub faster.  Coming from a bold 9930, my email productivity is greatly impacted by the speed of frequent operations.  Prefer anything that doesn't involve a long press, as it is slow.

Suggestion 1:  Make a gesture for deleting an email (ie, swipe left side of item to the left)

Suggestion 2: Add a trash can icon to the bar on the bottom of the hub, press it and then each email has a trash icon on it (like app icons do when long pressing), press that and it is deleted with the ability to have no further confirmations.

Suggestion 3. Add a trash icon to each email when doing a long press, like the app icons on the main pages.

Try reading this post in this thread, written to answer the same thing previously. New methods and with a little practice they work great.
There's nothing in that post about deleting items, its all about selecting text etc.  I have found nothing except long press email, trash.  Or long press, multi select, email, email, trash.  Both of which are far too slow.
3.Ability to delete email off phone but not off of the server.
Until this is changed by Blackberry (aparently in the works), you will need to file the messages instead of deleting them. Don't forget to turn off "Show filed messages" in the hub settings.
Completely unacceptable. Blackberry has delivered a non-working email solution. Filing emails to solve this problem is slow, cumbersome, and removes the ability to use filing for other purposes since you have to hide filed messages in hub.

4. Add the ability to edit the browser's "speed dial" links on the home page.  It just appears to add more to the list each time you click the "Add to Home Screen" button from a page.

What you are referring to as the speed dial links i think are simply your last visited pages, this can only be changed to an actual "Home Page" of your liking in the settings.

The "add icons to your homescreen"  bookmarking choice gives you a link on your Home Screen amongst your apps. This is a great and very useful feature, it allows you to create mini-"apps" to mobile websites (great for mobile banking!) Make a page of them and file them in folders right on your homescreen. Smiley Happy

Ahh you are correct, and I've actually used this for Nokia Here already. I will change this to Add webpage "speed dials" links to browser.  I think speed dial is much more useful than a giant list of pages I visited in the past.  Although perhaps a combination of speed dial and pages I most frequently visit would be a good idea.

5. Bring back instantaneous email.  If this means a server doing the email checking constantly and notifying the phone when something is available (similar to BIS), then by all means do it.

My email is instantaneous, I am using a simple IMAP service that supports Push (P-IMAP). If your email provider isn't providing that yet, maybe you should push them to support it? My email is actually showing up faster on my Z10 than it is on my desktop about 99.8% of the time. Smiley Wink

I originally setup my email with ActiveSync, which was not instantanous.  I am now using POP3 to try and work around the 'emails deleting from the server when deleted from phone' bug.  But POP3 is not instantaneous because its polled and the phone doesn't poll very frequently.  My provider supports IMAP, but the BB10's implementation of IMAP doesn't seem to work with the Exchange setup we have. I will keep trying. I found this, which appears to be another vendor having trouble with BB10's IMAP: Setting Up Blackberry BB10

6. BlackBerry balance without BES.  Balance looks awesome, but without a willing IT dept to install BES, possibly the phone's strongest feature goes completely unnoticed and unenjoyed.  Perhaps make an optional server/BES (similar to what I mentioned in #5) that users could connect to and configure balance from the phone themselves?

This would be interesting, but not sure if we will ever see it, unless it becomes a paid service. I'm sure that at some point an email hosting company will start supplying BES10 accounts on their servers..

You are probably correct that we won't see this.  But we should, it would make the value proposition for the phone that much higher, and this would allow instantanous email once again regardless of protocol employed.  Plus this (or a server for #5) would allow supporting many more protocols and services and fixing bugs without having to roll out a firmware update to do so.. one of the big advantages of BIS.

I tried to keep the requests that actually are currently avialable out of the list, but I may have missed one or two.

Re: Feature Requests for BlackBerry10 OS

And here are my requests (I removed a whole list of requests/complaints from my list if they were mentioned above by other users)

In Playbook we can have a single character password, why not on BB10? "too short" well it is my decision, isn't it?

There is no way to go next/previous while reading an e-mail. Please add these functions. Also while you are at it, you forgot the most important feature of BB e-mail client, Next Unread / Previous Unread.

E-mail or Hub should have more buttons at the bottom in landscape mode. Why keep only three (or four in e-mail view) buttons when you have the real estate. It would be extremely handy if you allowed users to edit which buttons should go at the bottom. Next Previous is really needed while reading an e-mail. For example I would love to add "File" button at the bottom as a shortcut instead of forward, I rarely forward, but I file all the time. Maybe allow users to have two row of keys, add next/previous/unread. Or it could be done with a gesture. How about swiping the account name (top blue bar while reading e-mail) left and right?

When you create a new contact in BlackBerry, it gets synced to all accounts on the Hub. There is no way to limit the new contact to a specific account.

Sometimes when you file an e-mail to a folder, it stops and waits few seconds with no message. Even when it files immediately, there is a confirmation message that takes time to appear and disappear, and the folder list does not disappear automatically.

Messages filed automatically by server using server side filter rules are still showing up on Blackberry hub/inbox. In older BB versions the filtered messages did not show up in the list, filed messages still did.

When you filter your e-mails using Filter / Unread function, new unread e-mails do not show up until you close the filter and re-open. It won't just keep refreshing your screen with unread e-mails. Can BB add a button to the hub "Unread Hub" so when hub shows 8 or 2, you can actually see unread items easily without having to through so many taps.

Native BB QR scanner (Smart Tags) does not work with barcodes (it only scans with no way to use the information). There is Open In function but it doesn't work properly.

We need to add more customs search providers, and be able to add custom search strings/wildcards. For example currently there is Google, Bing, Yahoo, Foursquare, etc..

I hope BB introduces the ability include more standard & custom searches, IMDB, PriceGrabber, Ebay, Youtube, XYZ Forums, ABC Newspaper, 123 Database, Etc.. Most sites nowadays provide search string in their URL Search=?* etc...

Non of the Battery apps can access system settings to add a battery icon to the top. I wish battery percentage was there.

There is no way to check carrier/mobile signal strength.

Blackberry, please add the date and carrier / SSID info to the top. Sometimes we just want to glance at the top to see the date without having to swipe.

Please bring back keyboard shortcuts. Since we can easily swipe up to bring the keyboard, just add keyboard shortcuts in e-mail, phone (true speed dialing, dialing by word?), and browser, etc.. if possible. I could always call 1800SOMETHING# now I have to look up the number or use dial pad.. Please bring it back.

Camera zoom function needs to be fixed, also please include option of fixed focus by tapping on the screen to focus. The auto focus in video is focusing in and out to

various objects all the time. Stabilization feature also causes tearing/ripples, I guess it is good if you are stationary. Or use Volume Keys to Zoom.

Please allow more than 12 icons in an icon group/folder, I hated Apple for limiting apps per folder, please fix it.

Auto ON/OFF feature is not there anymore. BB should consider Auto DND (DoNotDisturb) or Auto Silent/Airplane modes instead.

Please find a way to stop the music app from automatically starting up everytime it connects to bluetooth like car audio. This is very annoying.

No Panaroma mode in Camera app, why not? It is very easy to incorporate. This could be a nice addition to next release, and easy.

The text selection grips needs to be a little bigger, sometimes I cannot see where I am moving them, they work better in Playbook, nice big tabs.

Call Functions, before answering a phone add sideways gesture functions, like swiping right will forward the call, swiping left will answer with a test message, etc..

Or there should be a way to reject the call without sending it to voice mail, phones had this function a decade ago, I don't know what happened to it.

We used to be able to see the "History" without having to save the contact. Now I don't see anyway to "View History" of a certain phone number, it just keeps adding

them as individual entries to the log. Now I can't see when was the last time they called me, how many times we spoke which day, etc... I loved this feature in BB5.

Where is BB Traffic? Where is BB Weather, without having to run an active frame? It will eventually disappear if you run too many apps. I liked a little Icon that shows me what the temp is, instead of running a whole app.

There is no Skype. Smiley Sad This day and age with all other platforms having it, please either get skype (Microsoft) to cooperate, or open up BBM to other platforms. If necessary, pay Skype to develop the app, then charge BB users for the app. Most will gladly pay.

Can we tap and hold on an active frame to pin it, or can we pin two favorite apps between Call and Search & Search and Camera buttons in the  bottom bar? How about Close All running Active Frames app to quickly free up ram?

I hope next generation devices have two speakers or speaker that is facing forward. When playing games or watching videos in landscape mode, I find my palm muting the speaker. I have to hold it gently with fingers to ahve a gap in between, something I don't want to do when I am on the subway or bus..

Blackberry Maps should have a Zoom In/Zoom Out buttons, sometimes using it with one hand, it is impossible to zoom in and out. (Zoom in is OK but we can't zoom back out)

Re: Feature Requests for BlackBerry10 OS

The send as feature is sorely missed also ability to add picture to text message. I could only send it by exiting messaging and sending separately from picture file
