Re: BES 4.0 on Windows 2000 Server in a Windows 2008 Domain

What version of Exchange are you using?

It appears that you are on BES 4.0 GOLD.  There have been 7 service packs and 3 maintenance releases published (4.0 SP7 MR3) since ... and you should seriously consider ugprading as part of this troubleshooting.

4.0 is EOL too.

I also need the MAGT log to see whats going on in there.  The CTRL is only capturing part of the full event.

Re: BES 4.0 on Windows 2000 Server in a Windows 2008 Domain

Hi Andy,

I am running Exchange 2003 Enterprise (SP2).  I think I mentioned in an earlier post that I inherited this BES, and yes, I did plan to update to the latest service pack / maintenance release as soon as this issue was resolved.  I didn't do it already because I didn't want to take a chance on introducing any new issues.  However, if that is likely to help, then I will go ahead with the update.

I knew our version was dated, but I didn't realize it was EOL already... does that mean that we cannot get support if I call RIM, or does that just mean that a date of support ending has been established?  If we are already past the point of support, then I can make a case for upgrading to v5 with management.

Here is the MAGT log for the same time period as the CTRL log I posted yesterday.

Re: BES 4.0 on Windows 2000 Server in a Windows 2008 Domain

Hi Andy,

Nothing was cut.  The log starts from when the server boots, and ends after it tries 10 times to start the message system.  At that point nothing more is logged until the next reboot.   Do you need another log perhaps?

Thanks for your help on this!

hmn, yeah.

If you'd like, zip up a set of the days BES logs (all files) and email it to BBAndyDufresne@gmail.com. Please also make sure to include a link to this thread so I know what the message is referencing / where to respond.

I'll post back any relevant content removing anything personally identifiable / confidential.

Re: BES 4.0 on Windows 2000 Server in a Windows 2008 Domain

I tried something new.  I shut down the 2003 DC.  Before I rebooted the BES server, this time I logged in and reset the MAPI profile.  Then I restarted the BES Services.   They came online ok, so then I tried a full BES server restart.  This time, it came up with no issues.  The 2003 DC is powered off, but not yet disjoined from the domain.  However, this is the farthest I have gotten on this, so I am thinking my issue may be resolved.  If anything adverse happens after I demote and disjoin the 2003 DC, I will post back, but for now, it's looking good.
