BES 4.1.6 Policy service problem. Errors in debug log and items from the ITAdminQueue not processed

This BES server has been through a few MR updates and SP updates and this problem has been around for a while, it's just starting to get annoying and needs to be fixed.

If you issue a command for a user such as having their IT policy resent or if you attempt wireless activation with a new user, these items are never processed correctly.

In the Policy Service logs I find the following:

[40000] (08/04 01:01:57.568):{0x8A4} ITAdminAPI::UpdateITAdminQueueItemStatus - No records updated in database for entry id 135
[20000] (08/04 01:01:57.568):{0x8A4} {user@ourdomain.com, PIN=XXXXXXXX, UserId=34}SCS:Smiley TongueollDBQueueNewRequests - Failed to update ITAdminQueue Item Status for entry id 135
[20000] (08/04 01:01:57.568):{0x8A4} SCS::ThreadProc - PollDBQueueNewRequests failed

I haven't had alot of luck locating what's going on here and would appreciate some input!

I have tried removing the users and readding them, cleaning the ITAdminQueue manually and restarting the service, nothing seems to change or affect this problem.

Thanks in advance people!

By cleaning the ITAdminQueue manually what is it that you're doing?

Delete * from ITAdminQueue

?

Have you restarted the server after removing the user, and clearing out the ITAdminQueue?

BES 4.1.6 Policy service problem. Errors in debug log and items from the ITAdminQueue not processed

Yes, I have tried restarting the server after cleaning the ITAdminQueue out and after removing the user.  I stop the services, clean out the ITAdminQueue (By opening up SQL enterprise manager, selecting the database, and opening up all rows in the ITAdminQueue table, then deleting them all from there), reboot the server and as soon as I request a process that places an item in the ITAdminQueue I start seeing the same problems over again.  Errors logged in the event log and in the BB debug logs.

Re: BES 4.1.6 Policy service problem.

Any chance you can post more from the POLC log?  Perhaps the whole log?

Feel free to attach it or PM me a link and I'll only post relevant information back removing any personally identifiable info.

Could you try increasing the POLC logging level too?

BES 4.1.6 Policy service problem. Errors in debug log and items from the ITAdminQueue not processed

I believe I have sanitized this enough, let me know if you see something I forgot to block out...

Thanks in advance everyone for your help.

The logging level was already ser to 4 (Which is really 5) and the information in the log seems to not be very helpful.

POLC log upon a fresh startup and up to the errors in the last 8 lines.   After the errors you only see pin/heartbeats going back and forth.

Re: BES 4.1.6 Policy service problem.

Can you try uninstalling DBNS and also increasing the logging level to 7 in the registry? ... and then re-posting log?

I'm not sure if more log would be valuable, but it very well could be.

Registry info / value to set (you'll need to restart policy service after setting this)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Logging Info\Policy Service]
"DebugLogLevel"=dword:00000007

Logging level 7 contents and progress.

Alright, started with disabling DBNS per the instructions here:

http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB11716&sliceId=SAL_Public&dialogID=77093804&stateId=0%200%2077091712

After I disabled DBNS I increased the logging level to 7 and restarted the Policy service, the problem seems to have gone away somewhat.... The user that I had attempted to send an ITPolicy update to is now updating in the manager and showing it has recieved and processed the ITPolicy update, also in the database I only have two entries in the ITAdminQueue and they're not stacking up in there now.

I'm going to try a wireless activation to see if it works correctly now, but I have included my latest log below in case this doesn't work and also incase you see additional problems with it beyond complaining it can't initialize the DBNS system now.

Thank you again! Much appreciated!!!

Re: 2nd part of the log

everything looks ok ... the smileys are killing me though Smiley Happy

Glad to hear its working good for you.  DBNS, well ... I dunno, I don't get it.  RIM doesn't use it.  They don't apppear to recommend its usage in larger environments ... blech.  Either make something that works, or don't make it ... and if it has so many caveats, be clear about 'em.
