BES and Exchange do they have to be on the same LAN

Just a quick question that was brought up,  anyone know the answer or solution that would make this work??

No, but you want to make sure that the latency between the BES and your email servers are not excessive. I think its 250ms but not positive. Hopefully someone can validate or correct.

Indeed they don't have to be ... but you really want them to be.  Latency is a killer for BES / Exchange ... you want RTT to be < 35 ms ... at 75 you'll probably start to really see issues ... over 100 real problems ... 250, you're probably swimming with the fishies. IIFC SQL latency should be < 100ms also.

 

BES & Exchange on disparate networks is a recipe for problems.  Put them on the same LAN, whether it be 10/100/1000mbit.
