Cannot activate one user - "The BlackBerry Enterprise Server has not responded to your activation requst.... An error may have occurred"

Hi All

Running BES 4.1.7.  4 Servers in the BES domain running Windows 2003 SP2 with seperate datastore.

A new user has been given a Blackberry but cannot activate on our BES system for some reason. Same error message all the time (see title). We have deleted the account, recreated, moved to a different BES etc.

Any idea on what to actually search for in the logs? And which log to search to indicate where the issue is?

Hope someone can help.

Is the end user receiving the network@etp message in their Inbox?   Is the end user sitting in their mail client and opening the network@etp message when it arrives?

Re: Cannot activate one user - "The BlackBerry Enterprise Server has not responded to your activation requst.... An error may have occurred"

When I have seen this in the past, for new or re-activating an existing user.  A work around that seems to work (RIM showed us this), is to move the user onto a Static Mailbox Agent.

To do this onjce you have added the user to the server (but before activation), go to 'Edit Properties' > Advanced > change the 'Enable Static Mailbox Agent' to true and change the mailbox ID to another number, anyhting thats not already in use.

I believe this allows that user to have their own worker process, but what is great is that in the logs folder the user would have ther own set of log files, YOUR-SERVER-NAME_ALRT_01_20110624_0001.txt.  The 01 in the middle of the logfile would be replaced with the agent ID you suggested.  I think the number can be anywhere between 2 and 200 (roughly).

Hope this helps or at least highlights the logs you need to read.

Regards,

Gareth

Re: Cannot activate one user - "The BlackBerry Enterprise Server has not responded to your activation requst.... An error may have occurred"

Hi

The ETP file is being delivered to the mailbox fine, and the user is not doing anything with it, just leaving it alone. I'll try out the Static Agent idea, but in the meantime does anyone know what logs I should be searching?

Also, could this be caused by the SIM card not being BES enabled?

with BES 4.1.7, yes that will be an issue.
