Groupwise to Exchange BES Migration

Hi all,

I'm new to the BES world and have been asked to migrate our existing BES for Groupwise (4.1.3.17) infrastructure to our new Exchange infrastructure (4.1.6). From reading some posts and documentation I believe this is the process I need to follow, but would like any advice on potential issues, workarounds or whether my approach is correct.

  1. Request temporary SRP license (part of the migration kit) due to our co-existence period
  2. Build new BES for Exchange infrastructure
  3. Remove user account and device from BES for Groupwise and provision the account in BES for Exchange
  4. Resetting of the device so that a full synchronisation occurs with the new Exchange mailbox
  5. Repeat steps 3-4 until all users and devices are switched over

Thanks in advance

Re: Groupwise to Exchange BES Migration

#6, after all users are moved and the original BES is shut down replace the SRP on the new BES with the old one.

Re: Groupwise to Exchange BES Migration

Is there a way to migrate from Groupwise to Exchange without wiping and re-registering the devices?

might be able to delete all the DESKTOP service books and activate on new BES, you know the answer if that does knot work.

Not just wipiing - you'll have to remove the policy also.

Policies are different between 4 and 5.

Even more so between GroupWise and Exchange.

Re: Groupwise to Exchange BES Migration

I would recommend this third party program which has saved our a lot of time and efforts to perform migration task from Novell Groupwise to MS Exchange Server: Groupwise recovery

Now all mailboxes are working fine on MS Exchange Server. Best things about this migration tool are that it offers multiple mailboxes migration and copies all profile information to MS Exchange server. A free trial version is also there !

Re: Groupwise to Exchange BES Migration

Here is an advanced and most recommended migration tool that helped us in quick migration from Novell GW 12.0 to Exchange Server 2013 version with full accuracy: Quick GroupWise to Exchange Server Migration Tool

This cost effective application saved ours a lot of time and efforts.

A free trial version is also available on its official website !
