Re: BES/SBE/BPS 4.x upgrade options to BES Express 5.0

Hello,

I have a BES 4.1.4.12 on a dedicated machine (Win 2003 R2 x86).

Exchange 2007 is running on a separate machine, this one will not be replaced.

The current BES server will be replaced and I plan to go for BES Express 5.0.2.

Can you confirm that this is the good things to do :

1. Install BES Express 5.0.2 on the new server

2. Setup this server to connect to my Exchange 2007 server

3. Move users of my BES 4.1.4 using BB Transporter

4. Decommission BES 4.1.4 when no user left

Thanks in advance.

Re: BES/SBE/BPS 4.x upgrade options to BES Express 5.0

That should work. just make sure you dont have any devices on OS 4.3. they dont transfer well.

Best to have all on OS 4.5 and higher if you can.

Re: BES/SBE/BPS 4.x upgrade options to BES Express 5.0

Thank you knottyrope,

Just one more little question : Do I have to create a new blackberry domain on the new server ? Same name ? Different name ?

Thanks again ;-)

New name since it is a new database/BlackBerry domain.

OK, so install seems good but 2 services don't start :

Blackberry Administration Service - Application Server and Blackberry MDC Connection Service.

The 2 URL webdesktop and webconsole don't launch...

According to the event viewer, there is a problem with Java Virtual Machine... ???

Re: BES/SBE/BPS 4.x upgrade options to BES Express 5.0

I had the same problem, check this article first: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB23927.  I found one of of the MS hotfixes right away, but since all of the hotfixes in the article are actually different versions of the same fix, each time you uninstall one you have to reboot and go back in and look for the older one(s).  Once i got them all uninstalled and rebooted everything worked normally.  good luck!

Re: BES/SBE/BPS 4.x upgrade options to BES Express 5.0

Thanks but my BESX server is under Windows 2003 SP2 x86 so I think that this KB doesn't apply to my case...

Re: BES/SBE/BPS 4.x upgrade options to BES Express 5.0

Java been updated? Dont update it, it is not needed but check the following

http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB14697

Also modify this key, it seems to get the wrong value during an upgrade for some.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BAS-AS\Parameters\JVM Option Number 3

-Xmx1024m
by
-Xmx768m

Look at the BAS AS logs located here by default
C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerryEnterprise Server\Logs

Then take a look at this KB.
http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB24220

Re: BES/SBE/BPS 4.x upgrade options to BES Express 5.0

Thanks,

I have to modify the registry key you mention and this one HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BlackBerry MDS Connection Service\ImagePath

Now, place to BB Transporter, by the way, where do I have to install it ? On the old or the new server ?
