Upgrade MSDE to SQL Express

I have a single BES server (4.1 sp6)  hosting about 50 users.  My existing database is a local install of MSDE 2000 SP3.  I'd like to upgrade to SQL Express.  What's the process?  Are there any issues.

I'm assuming I backup my existing DB

Stop Services

Run the upgrade using "Default Instance"

Can't seem to fine any definite instructions or advice for my given local environment.

Any info would be appreciated, even if it's a simple link to a KB article.

Re: Upgrade MSDE to SQL Express

There are no published instructions for this process ... honestly any time I've done this I've backed up the database and then uninstalled MSDE.  I've then installed SQL Express.  The issue with this process is maintaining permissions of the accounts that exist within the server.

After taking a backup of the database check out how you have permissions / users configured within sql server (msde) ... just in case you have to uninstall / reinstall and the upgrade fails
