Why on Earth make Z10 and Q10 incompatible with BES 5?

I really don't understand this decision. Do you really think it will drive sales of BES 10 ? No; nobody in their right mind is going to invest in BES 10 right now.

All we are going to do is put these devices on ActiveSync and migrate the rest of our users off Blackberry and BES before Blackberry goes bust. None of our users beyond a small band of tech "dinos" want Blackberrys anyway, most people who are stuck with them, hate them and can't wait to join their co-workers on Iphone/Android handsets.

All making them incompatible has done is issue one last slap in the face to the IT Managers/Directors/CIOs that you've never bothered to understand and now can't wait for your market share to drop down to nothing so we don't have to deal with your extra costs and hassle. Right now Blackberry should be doing everything it can to get these people on side but your seem determined to try to bully us into submission.

Well good luck, RIM, it was a pain in the butt having to deal with you! Hopefully your days will be over soon.

Re: Why on Earth make Z10 and Q10 incompatible with BES 5?

Why?

Cause users demanded a full email client on device and BlackBerry listened.

BES 5 and lower did some extra work to only send the message content and not the whole actual message. This wont work with a Full mail client.

If you have a current version of Full BES, there is not cost to upgrade your CALs to BES 10

You also get a Free SRP which in the past you had to pay for.

[ Edited ]

Thanks for your post knottyrope, I understand that a full mail client is nice to have, but isn't this addressing the problems of years ago too late? If Blackberry was going to develop they needed to innnovate and create a USP (having given away one of their main ones in BBM recently), ATM there is no compelling reason to bother with RIM.

Free CALS dont' make much difference. I still have to:

Provision Servers

Train Staff

Buy Support

Discover and document new processes.

Waste time migrating users from the old servers to the new ones.

Or, I can just plonk them all on Activesync and wait for RIM to die.

RIM never seem to have understood that for IT people Blackberry is all hassle and no reward and now that hardly anybody wants to have a Blackberry anyway, what's the point? Even Windows Phone has a stronger case than BB because it fits nicely with AD/Exchange and requires no extra resources as well as being slightly less unpopular (just).

A free SRP is fine but without Blackberry I never need to pay for one anyway!

if you dont need Work Drives, want to wipe work space only, granular control of devices, or any of the features BES can help you in your environment then stick with EAS

I find BES to be much more than EAS and sticking with it.
