BPS software only syncs when device is conencted via USB

I have the following configuration.

SBS2003 R2

Exchange 2003

BPS 4.1.4.17

When I add a user and connect the device via BB manager the device syncs to exchange.  When I disconnect i lose the sync.  I have port 3101 opened and pointing to the server.  Any suggestions?

first and foremost, close port 3101 inbound.  TCP Port 3101 only needs to be opened outbound; READ

Does the user have the proper BlackBerry Enterprise Data plan for their device?

Sorry the port is only opened for outbound.

Well thank you.  Even though I had called Verizon once to confirm the data plan previously I got a totally different answer from them the second time and ofcourse that was the problem.

Sometimes it pays to triple check the obvious.
